ACHIEVEMENTS

As pet animal population is increasing these days the challenges faced by vets to treat them is also increasing. This is true especially in case of surgical cases are concerned. In order to cater the surgical needs of pets in Dindigul & surrounding districts of Tamilnadu “Lyka Pet Clinic & Surgical Centre” was established on January 24, 2007.

1. SOFT TISSUE SURGERY:

  • 1.1 CAESARIAN SECITON:
    Around 150 Caesarian Section were performed on various breeds of Dogs
    Viz., British Bull Dog, French bull dog, Pug, Chihuahua, Basset Hound,
    Boxer, Dachshund, Labrador, Doberman, Greatdane etc.,
  • 1.2 EAR SURGERY :
    Vertical Ear Canal Resection was performed on a dog (zepp’s operation)
    Aural haematoma operation was done on more than 200 dogs.
  • 1.3 GASTRO INTESTINAL SURGERY :

    5 cases of Gastric Dilatation & volvulous in Greatdane & chippiparai breeds were corrected through gastric decompression through gastrotomy, derotation & gastropexy

    Foreign bodies viz., tonic cap, fish hook, fish twine, bones etc were removed surgically from Stomach & intestine of dogs. Lot of Intussusception were corrected including enterectomy & anaestomosis. Rectal prolapse cases were corrected both through reduction & resection

  • 1.4 URO-GENITAL SURGERY:
    Around 300 Dogs underwent pan hysterectomy as the treatment for Pyometra Around 20 cases of Sertoli Cell Tumour & Testicular Torsion was corrected Urinary calculi were removed for more than 10 dogs through prescrotal urethrotomy and cytotomy Around 300 birth control operations were performed at lyka pet clinic & surgical centre in Dogs & Cats (both male & female) More than 2000 birth control operations were performed in Dogs & Cats (both male & female) in various district
  • 1.5 HERNIA OPERATION :
    Around 200 different hernia operations were performed including viz., Perineal hernia, Dorsal hernia, Umbilical hernia, Scrotal hernia, Inguinal Hernia etc.,
  • 1.6 MISCELLANEOUS OPERATION :
    Air pistol bullet was removed from a pup through surgery Perianal fistula was corrected along with docking in 4 dogs Around 200 dogs underwent radial excision of tumour on different location viz., Chest, Eye, Forelimb, Mammary gland, Neck, Oral cavity, Penis, Prepuce, Rump,Skin etc.,

  • 2. ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY:

    Around 40 Dogs underwent Intra Medullary Pinning (IMP) & wiring operations for fracture treatment 30 Dogs underwent External Skeletal Fixation (ESF) treatment for long bone fractures Dew claw amputations were performed both on pups & adults.

  • 3. OPHTHALMIC SURGERY:

    Around 25 cherry eye resection performed on different breeds viz., Neapolitan Mastiff, Basset Hound, Great Dane and Spitz Cataract surgery with IOL done on five dogs Conjuctival eye tumour removed on a non-descript dog Stapyloma correction with iridectomy, corneal suturing & tarsorraphy were done for around 20 dogs
